Your kitten, week by week

From the quiet room you set up before pickup to their first vaccines — what to do at each stage, and how DailyTails helps you keep up.

Where are you now?
1
Before pickup

Get one quiet room ready

  • One kitten-safe room with separate spots for food, water, litter, hiding, resting and scratching.
  • A secure carrier for the trip home.
  • Ask for their current food and care records, and arrange a vet visit.

The first days

Let them hide, and let them choose

  • Keep food, water, litter and a secure hiding spot together in the quiet room.
  • Sit nearby without pulling them out — invite, then let them decide.
  • Watch eating and litter use. Call a vet if they won’t eat or seem unwell.

Note where they spent the day and what they ate — small signs of settling in are easy to miss.

Week one

Small meals, an easy litter box, play every day

  • An uncovered, low-entry litter box in a quiet spot away from food — show them after naps and meals.
  • A complete kitten food in measured meals, with fresh water always out.
  • Short play with a wand toy, never hands, so teeth have the right target.

The first months

Vaccines, scratching, and a carrier they trust

  • Kittens need a series of core vaccines. Ask about FVRCP, rabies and feline leukemia, and have the next dates written down.
  • Put a sturdy scratcher right beside the furniture they already chose.
  • Leave the carrier open somewhere calm, so vet trips stop being a surprise.

Tilly AI · for the quiet worries
Miso still hides under the bed when people visit. Should I pull her out?
No need — hiding is how many cats feel safe. You logged that she ate and used the box today, which is a good sign. If she stops eating or seems unwell, call your vet.

New kitten questions

Is DailyTails free?

Yes — DailyTails is free to download and use. An optional Premium subscription unlocks a higher daily pet-chat allowance and other extras.

Can the whole family use it?

Yes. Invite up to 4 co-parents with one link. Everyone sees the same pet, logs and reminders, and each carer gets their own colour.

Is Tilly a vet?

No. Tilly answers from your pet's profile and recent care activity. It's for everyday questions and companionship — not veterinary advice. For anything health-related, check with your vet.

Are the stage tips medical advice?

No. They summarize the DailyTails Guide, which names its veterinary and animal-welfare sources. Your vet's plan for your kitten comes first.
